How to Turn an FL Studio Pattern into a Full Song
Convert a single complex pattern into individual tracks quickly. This is the fastest way to start arranging a full song in FL Studio.
Splitting patterns allows you to take a busy loop and break it into individual elements for the Playlist. This technique is essential for creating build-ups and breakdowns in your arrangement.
Follow these steps
Select the Source Pattern
Select the pattern you want to break apart in the Channel Rack or Picker Panel. Ensure it contains all the different instrument parts you've composed.
Execute Split by Channel
Right-click the pattern name in the Picker Panel or the main Pattern selector at the top. Choose the 'Split by channel' option from the context menu.
Drag Patterns to Playlist
Highlight all the newly created patterns in the Picker Panel. Drag and drop them directly into the Playlist onto separate tracks.
Arrange the Elements
Arrange the clips by removing them from the intro and gradually adding them back in to build energy. This creates a natural progression from a simple loop to a full song.
Common mistakes
- Splitting a pattern that contains multiple instruments and losing the original arrangement.
- Forgetting to rename the new patterns, leading to a confusing list of 'Pattern 1, 2, 3'.
