How to Tune Vocals in FL Studio
Fix off-pitch notes and achieve the perfect vocal performance using NewTone. A simple guide to transparent or stylistic tuning.
This tutorial shows you how to use NewTone, FL Studio's built-in pitch correction tool. You can fix occasional flat notes or create the famous 'auto-tune' effect easily.
Follow these steps
Load Audio into NewTone
Right-click your vocal clip in the Playlist or Sampler and select 'Pitch-correct sample.' This opens the audio inside the NewTone editor.
Set the Key and Scale
Right-click the piano roll on the left to select the specific Scale and Key of your song. This prevents notes from snapping to the wrong keys.
Correct Individual Notes
Double-click any note to snap it perfectly to the nearest line. Alternatively, use the 'Center' knob to snap all notes at once.
Adjust Pitch Variation
Use the 'Variation' knob to flatten the internal pitch drift of a note. Higher settings create a more robotic, 'tuned' sound.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the wrong key in NewTone, which will force notes to incorrect pitches.
- Over-correcting 'Variation,' which removes the natural human vibrato.
