How to Quantize Notes in FL Studio

Fix timing issues instantly. Learn how to snap your MIDI recordings to the grid for a tight, professional rhythm in FL Studio.

This guide explains how to correct the timing of notes that were recorded or drawn off-beat. You will learn to use the Quick Quantize and Manual Quantize tools.

Follow these steps

  1. Select Your Notes

Select the notes you wish to fix by holding Ctrl and dragging a box over them. If you want to fix everything, press Ctrl+A.

  2. Apply Quick Quantize (Ctrl+Q)

Press Ctrl+Q for 'Quick Quantize'. This immediately snaps the start of every note to the nearest grid line based on your current Snap setting.

  3. Fine-Tune with Alt+Q

Press Alt+Q to open the full Quantize menu. Here, you can adjust the 'Sensitivity' and 'Strength' to keep some of the original human feel.

  4. Check Grid Snap Settings

Ensure your 'Snap to Grid' setting (magnet icon) is set to '1/2 step' or '1/4 step' before quantizing to ensure notes land on the intended beats.

Common mistakes

  • Quantizing with 100% start time, which can remove the 'soul' or 'swing' from a live performance.
  • Quantizing to the wrong grid division (e.g., 1/4 instead of 1/16), which moves notes too far.
