How to Loop Record and Comp Takes in FL Studio

Loop recording allows you to record multiple versions of a performance without stopping the music. This guide explains how to capture these takes and 'comp' the best parts into a final track.
Follow these steps
Set the Loop Area
Highlight the section you want to record in the Playlist timeline. Enable the 'Loop recording' icon in the top transport bar.
Prepare the Input track
Right-click the Record button and ensure 'Audio' is selected. Select your input device on a Mixer track and arm it for recording by clicking the red circle.
Record Your Takes
Press Play/Record. FL Studio will loop the selection, creating a new 'take' audio clip in the Playlist every time it restarts the loop.
Comp the Best Parts
Expand the recorded track to see all takes. Use the 'Slice' tool to cut out the best parts and move them to a new 'Comp' track for the final version.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting to enable 'Discard recordings' if you want to start over, leading to disk clutter.
- Not setting a pre-count, which makes it hard to time your performance at the start of the loop.
