How to Check LUFS in FL Studio for Streaming
Ensure your music sounds great on Spotify and Apple Music by checking LUFS levels using Wave Candy or Fruity Limiter's built-in meters.
LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale) measures the perceived loudness of your track rather than just the peak levels. Checking this ensures your music isn't turned down or altered significantly by streaming platform normalization.
Follow these steps
Load a Metering Plugin
Open the Master channel in the Mixer and add 'Wave Candy' or 'Fruity Limiter' to the end of your chain. Many producers prefer Wave Candy for its detailed visual feedback.
Select LUFS Mode
In Wave Candy, select the 'Meter' mode and change the type to 'LUFS' in the settings menu. If using Fruity Limiter, switch the display mode to 'Loudness.'
Monitor During Loud Passages
Play your song from the loudest part (usually the drop or chorus). Look at the 'Short Term' LUFS to see the current intensity.
Measure the Integrated Value
Play the entire song from start to finish to calculate the 'Integrated LUFS.' This is the number streaming services use to determine normalization levels.
Common mistakes
- Only checking the peak meter instead of the integrated LUFS value.
- Mastering to -14 LUFS exactly and sacrificing the energy of the track.
